Around The Nest - Blue Jays Minor League Podcast - Week 12

After The Fireworks

Jesse Goldberg-Strassler

The Bluefield Blue Jays are on fire to start the season, now sitting at 13-3, three games ahead of their Mercer Cup rivals Princeton Rays. Outfielder Dominic Abbadessa has been Dominant Abgoodessa, hitting .442/.508/.558 through his first 13 games in the Appalachian League. DJ Neal went 1-for-4 in his return to the lineup after a few days off and is now hitting .420/.463/.660, having built that .660 slugging without hitting any homers! Eric Pardinho, despite a losing record, has been better than advertised. The 17-year-old Brazilian pitcher has a 1.38 ERA through three starts, having allowed just two runs and five hits, striking out 19 while walking just two. He’s three-and-a-half years younger than the league average.

We look forward to hearing broadcaster Zach Helton check in with host Jesse Goldberg-Strassler on today’s Around The Nest!

The podcast broadcasts live here starting at 4 pm ET. You can also download an archived copy after the show for later listening if you can’t catch it live.

Here’s the episode summary from Jesse:

Fireworks spectaculars, massive crowds, stars and stripes caps and (Dunedin) orange jerseys! What was Canada Day / Independence Day like for the Blue Jays affiliates? Who made the Eastern League All-Star Team from New Hampshire? Plus Tayler Saucedo moves up, Kacy Clemens and Patrick Murphy lead a doubleheader sweep, Kyle Weatherly and Jesus Navarro impress, and Jesus Severino swats a grand slam! It’s the latest from the last week of Blue Jays affiliation action from around the system.

And this year’s Futures Game rosters have been released featuring Danny Jansen and Bo Bichette!
