Blue Jays Roster Moves: Reid-Foley Up, Barnes Down, Cumpton DFA

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays-Workout Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

We knew this was coming. Sean Reid-Foley has been called up for tonight’s start. Danny Barnes is going back to Buffalo. Brandon Cumpton has been DFAed.

I’m looking forward to Reid-Foley’s start tonight. I don’t know why he wasn’t brought up when we first started with ‘bullpen days’, but I guess he’s ready NOW.

Barnes has been in just 3 games since returning to the team at the end of July, going 2.2 inning, allowing 4 hits, 2 walks with 3 strikeouts. On the season he’s pitched in 35 games, 32 innings, 34 hits, 5 home runs, 19 walks and 30 strikeouts. I’d rather keep him than two or three of the other guys in the pen, but such is the life of a reliever with options.

Cumpton got into 1 game with the Jays. 1.2 innings, 3 hits, 1 earned, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. We signed him off an Independent League team. In Buffalo he has a 5.40 ERA in 8 games, 5 starts. 26.2 innings 30 hits, 6 home runs, 7 walks and 22 strikeouts.

Welcome Sean. I hope you are here a long long time.

And, as you likely heard, Vlad Jr. was named International League Batter of the Week (surprise), for a .458 BA, with a double, 4 homers, 5 RBI and a 1.000 slugging average. I’d like his next player of the week award to be with the Jays.

EDIT: And today’s lineup

Update:

I didn’t notice this but:

So maybe he isn’t the emergency catcher for the Bisons.
