The summer heat is winding down and the minor league regular season is as well as we now approach the end of August. But, a few of the Blue Jays’ farm teams are in a good position to make the playoffs: Lansing clinched their postseason berth a long time ago with their first-half championship, Bluefield is also headed to the postseason to face the Princeton Rays in an extended edition of the Mercer Cup rivalry, New Hampshire has a magic number of 2 and can clinch tonight, Vancouver has a tight one-game lead on Spokane, and Dunedin has not been mathematically eliminated.
I’m certainly excited for extra minor league games because it may mean we’ll have a postseason edition of Around The Nest, the Blue Jays minor league podcast hosted by THE Jesse Goldberg-Strassler.
Around The Nest is a live podcast and can be streamed here at 3 pm ET today (note: we are not airing at our usual 4 pm ET time slot). An archived copy is also available for download at the same link at the conclusion of the show.
Here is this week’s description from Jesse:
Bluefield punches its playoff ticket and honors three Appalachian League Post-Season All-Stars; New Hampshire is on the cusp of reaching the postseason -- and has SIX Eastern League Post-Season All-Stars; Lansing faces its future playoff opponent to less-than-desirable results; Vancouver’s lead atop the division stands at one game with ten to play; Buffalo wraps up its home schedule; and Dunedin rights itself after a skid. Let’s go Jay-Talking!
As always, Bluebird Banter members are encouraged to ask questions for the broadcasters in the comments below. Do note that certain questions, especially ones dealing with minor league players’ injuries, are difficult to answer as many such information is considered to be confidential by the club.
