Nice start for Borucki, plus homers by Morales and McKinney, Jays win

Since Ryan Borucki didn’t make it out of the first inning in his last start, I think we were all curious to see how he would do tonight.

Well, he was good. I could do without the ‘let the first couple of guys on base’ and then start pitch thing that he seems to do, but it is working.

Ryan went 6.1, allowed 7 hits, 2 earned (1 a home run which turned out to his last pitch of the day), 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.

Ryan Tepera finished off the 7th.

Tyler Clippard gave up a single, but also had 2 strikeouts in the 8th.

Ken Giles worried us by giving up a leadoff single in the 9th. After a long at bat with Nick Williams he got a ground ball force at second. A walk (another long at bat) put the tying run on base. A three-pitch strikeout made me feel a little more confident. Ken got robbed by the plate ump on what should have been the 0-2 pitch to Rhys Hoskins, but he got the strikeouts after going to a full count. Not an easy save but he’s now 5 for 5 in save situations with the Jays.

Offensively, we did enough. Kendrys Morales homered for the 5th straight game. He has 6 in the 5 games, jumping him from 13 to 19 on the season. And Billy McKinney had a 2-run homer, his 2nd career home run.

Lourdes Gurriel only had 1 hit, an RBI single, so his streak of 11 straight games with 2 or more hits ends, but he has a 12 game hitting streak. He looked good on defense at short.

We only managed 6 hits in all. Randal Grichuk had 2 (and a walk), but he was picked off first, by the catcher, and doubled up on a hit and run, where Kevin Pillar lined the ball into right (straight at the right fielder).

Jays of the Day: Borucki (.182 WPA), McKinney (.203) and Aldemys Diaz (.096, for a 1 for 2 and a walk, plus some good defense at third base).

No Suckage Jays.

I’m going to missing for much of the next 2 weeks. We are taking a holiday in Nova Scotia. Since the games will be late out there, I’ll likely get to see some baseball and I’ll look in here when I can, but Everyone else will be doing the heavy lifting for the next while. It would be a good time to write that FanPost you have been thinking about.
