The good news?
Ryan Borucki was terrific. 6.1 innings, just 3 hits allowed, 2 walks with 5 strikeouts. He had an easy time of it, until 1 out in the 7th inning, when he gave up a walk and a Steve Pearce triple (a ball that Kevin Pillar should have made a better play on).
The bad news? Pretty much everything else.
Well that’s not fair, our infield defense was terrific, especially Lourdes Gurriel at short and Aledmys Diaz at third.
But other than that.....
Ryan Tepera came in after the Pearce triple, with the tying run at third base. He got a much needed strikeout, but then a walk and a Brock Holt homer and suddenly we were down 4-2
And then Jake Petricka had a tough time in the 8th. He gave up a walk, double, single, then got a couple of outs, before giving up another single.
Petricka out Tayler Guerrieri in. A wild pitch would make it 7-2.
Offensively we didn’t do much. 5 hits.
We got our 2 runs in the 6th. Devon Travis doubled. An out later Kendrys Morales walked. Jonathan Davis pinch ran for Kendrys and he and Devon pulled off the double steal with Davis going to second, slowing up and Travis going home. Kevin Pillar would single home Davis.
And that was it for the scoring.
We had a chance to get off to a good start. Gurriel started us off with a double. But Travis struck out when we needed him to move up the runner. Smoak also struck out and, after Kendrys was hit by pitch, Grichuk popped out.
The Red Sox used 8 pitchers, and we only had luck against one, getting 3 hits and our 2 runs against Nathan Eovaldi.
Jays of the Day: Borucki (.132 WPA) and Travis (.099).
Suckage: Tepera (-.373), Grichuk (-.170), and Smoak (-.092).
