Blue Jays 0 Yankees 11

The Yankees scored 5 runs in the first inning and it went downhill from there. They got 3 more in the third and 1 run in each of the fifth, eighth and ninth.

Marco Estrada didn’t have a good day. He wasn’t helped by a bad defensive play by Billy McKinney in the first inning. With runners on first and second, Aaron Hicks singled to left. McKinney slipped when he got to the ball, and then threw towards third, allowing Hicks to move to second. That was followed by a pop out and a ground out that would have been a double play if McKinney had thrown to second and kept Hicks at first.

4 runs would score after that.

McKinney got roasted (rightfully) on the broadcast for the bad play, but then Marco shouldn’t have given up 3 hits (and 4 runs) after that.

Estrada would go 2.2, giving up 6 hits, 8 runs, 3 walks with 2 strikeouts. I’m not sure if his back was bothering him again, but it was a bad night.

We ran through a bunch of relievers:

  • Taylor Guerrieri went 1.1, allowed 3 hits, 2 walks with a strikeout, but no runs.
  • Justin Shafer gave up a homer in his 2 innings of work.
  • Joe Biagini pitched a scoreless inning in his return from the DL, allowing a hit and a walk.
  • David Paulino pitched the 8th. He gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, 2 hits with a strikeout. Lourdes Gurriel made an error at short to cost us a run. He was helped out of the inning when Luke Volt mistakenly thought there was 2 outs on a fly to left and was doubled off first.

We did little on offense. Just 7 hits in all with 12 strikeouts. Luke Maile had 2 hits and 2 walks, so he was the offensive star.

McKinney, Gurriel, Grichuk and Pillar all had 0 fors.

No Jays of the Day, though I’m taking one out of petty cash for watching the whole thing.

Suckage: Estrada (-.349 WPA) and let’s give one to the batting lineup.

At least the Fisher Cats won.
