Blue Jays call up Anthony Alford

And today’s line up.

The day after Shi Davidi wrote about why the Blue Jays didn’t call up Anthony Alford at the start of the month, Alford is up (up from the couch, since Buffalo’s season has been over for a bit). In case you missed it the reason is:

….by waiting an extra two weeks, the Blue Jays also limited the chances that he eventually qualifies as a Super Two player for arbitration should he eventually play two full seasons in the majors.

Alford was close to the cut off for the Super Two level. Bringing him up now, he’ll be under the cutoff for that status. They really ought to do something to make it less worthwhile for teams to work the service time clock.

I hope we get to see him play some over the last couple of weeks of the season.

Today’s lineup:

Hernandez gets the day off after his error yesterday. Tellez plays, Smoak sits. And Jansen plays. We have 6 rookies starting today. Of course it is likely that the game will be rained out.
