The Blue Jays VP of baseball operations Ben Cherington has been hired by the Pirates to take their GM job:
According to multiple sources, Ben Cherington has accepted the Pirates GM job and is currently in Pittsburgh. Story to come.

Cherington was hired by the Blue Jays in September of 2016, and he worked on building the minor league system after doing the same for the Red Sox.
He has done a very good job for the Jays, our minor league system has improved in his time with the Jays.
We knew other teams would be looking at him since he is so well thought of in baseball. I am sort of surprised he took the Pirates job, he has passed on offers before, waiting for the right fit. I’m didn’t think the Pirates would be the best fit. I thought he would look for a team more willing to spend money.
The Blue Jays have a big hole to fill now. It will be interesting to see if the team looks outside the organization to fill his spot or if they move someone up.
