Pirates and Blue Jays line up for Trade

With Ben Cherington having the advantage of knowing everything about the Jays system and prospects, it offers a unique opportunity for him to extract some value while beginning a rebuild. The Jays could use a talent like Starling Marte or Chris Archer. I dont see either of those trades coming to fruition though. Marte will have a lot of suitors with a well documented thin CF free agent class. It will likely price the Jays out of his services. Archer may be to high of a risk factor or may not be attractive enough with questionable underlying metrics. The target that I think is most likely would be Keone Kela. A quality reliever for multiple years now, he has a questionable club house presence and attitude which limits his attractiveness to other clubs as noted by no action at the deadline this year. The Jays had a similar situation in Ken Giles when he was acquired and could offer a blue print of how Kela could rebuild value in time for the upcoming trade deadline. The Jay's have a surplus of minor league catchers and that should be where they look to augment their roster. Alejandro Kirk has a real bat that should play at a major league level but questions remain about his defense and future position. Could the intriguing upside of Kirk be enough to solidify the back end of the bullpen whether Giles stays or goes? It would add talent to a pitching staff that doesn't have enough of it and could help the Jays turn the corner in 2020.
