Justin Shafer was DFAed last Wednesday and today he was traded to the Reds for cash.
Shafer split the season between the Blue Jays and the Bisons. He pitched in 34 games for the Jays, with a 3.86 ERA. In 39.2 innings he allowed 41 hits, 6 home runs, 25 walks and 39 strikeouts. In Buffalo he pitched in 24 games, had a 3.52 ERA. In 30.2 innings he allowed 29 hits, 3 homers, 8 walks and 35 strikeouts.
If he stayed in the organization he would have been available in the Rule 5 draft. But he likely would have opted for free agency.
I was hoping Shafer would have a bigger part in the Jays bullpen next year, but guess not.
