The Blue Jays have made a couple of roster moves.
Devon Travis has been outrighted off the 40-man roster and Ryan Tepera has been DFAed.
Ryan Borucki, Matt Shoemaker, Tim Mayza, Lourdes Gurriel and Travis were on the 60-day DL. The other four were put on the 40-man today.
Travis was due a raise through arbitration this winter and, since he didn’t play this year we were pretty sure he wouldn’t be tendered a contract. Travis was our last link to Roy Halladay, as he was traded to the Jays for Anthony Gose. Gose came to the Jays in trade from the Tigers for Brett Wallace. Wallace, had come to the Jays in trade from the A’s for Michael Tayor, who, hours earlier came to us from the Phillies (along with Travis d’Arnaud and Kyle Drabek) in the Halladay trade.
So some of us are sad to see Travis come off the roster for that reason.
Tepera was is a bit of a surprise. MLB Trade Rumors figured he would likely get $1.6 million in arbitration, which I thought he would be well worth, but the team decided differently.
MLB Trade Rumors tells us that 10 players have received Qualfiying Offers ($17.8):
- Jose Abreu, 1B, White Sox
- Madison Bumgarner, SP, Giants
- Gerrit Cole, SP, Astros
- Josh Donaldson, 3B, Braves
- Jake Odorizzi, SP, Twins
- Marcell Ozuna, OF, Cardinals
- Anthony Rendon, 3B, Nationals
- Will Smith, RP, Giants
- Stephen Strasburg, SP, Nationals
- Zack Wheeler, SP, Mets
Players not getting a QO include Didi Gregorius and Cole Hamels.
