Our number 7 moment is one of those games I’ll never forget. I think it is the best pitched game I’ve ever seen. There’s been a couple of perfect games and a few no-hitters, but this game was at least as good as any of those.
It was am amazing start, Bradon Morrow struck out 17 (1 shy of the Blue Jays franchise record, owned by Roger Clemens) and walked just 2. He faced four batters above the minimum. And, from the recap, his 100 Game Score tied for the fourth best game score since the lively ball era started in 1920. The guys with better game scores? Kerry Wood (105), Nolan Ryan (101, against our Jays) and Sandy Koufax (101). Pretty good company.
He threw 137 pitches, too many for a pitcher with his history, but who would have had the heart to pull him.
The other rather incredible moment of the game was a Jose Molina stolen base.
The hit:
Hill tried his best to make it look like an error, but it was a hit.
Morrow was a favorite of mine. He had so much talent. It took a bit to turn that talent into performance and then a mess of injuries ended his career as a starter. He’s had great moments as a reliever but has still spent more time on the DL (and now IL) than the mound.
