Poll Time: Vote for the Blue Jays number 11 moment of the 2010s

Chris Coghlan played 36 games with the Blue Jays, in 2017 and I can only remember one play he made.

As baseball fans, we’ve seen baserunners coming in on a catcher holding the ball hundreds of times, and, generally, the runner runs into the catcher as hard as he can, hoping to separate the ball from the catcher. We’ve seen many catchers injured on this play. It doesn’t happen as much now, since catchers are supposed to leave a lane to the plate and runners are supposed to use that lane, instead of running through the catchers.

On this play, the throw to the plate took Yadier Molina right into Coghlan’s path. There was no way Chris could have gone around him. But he could go over. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a baserunner go over the catcher before this.

Forgotten in the play was the hit by Kevin Pillar. Unusual for Kevin, he took an outside pitch and drove it the other way, just missing a home run by a couple of feet. If it had gone over the right field wall, we wouldn’t remember the play.

It still amazes me.
