Not much for Blue Jays news this morning (or this winter).
Justin Smoak signed with the Brewers. He’s getting one-year plus an option. He’s getting $5 million this year and it sounds like the option is for $5.5 million.
Smoak had five seasons with the Blue Jays. Hit .237/.338/.459 with 117 home runs. He’s 37th on our all-time list in bWAR at 7.5, 31st in games played at 684 and 14th in home runs.
I’m sure we’ll do a goodbye post in the next few days, but I’ll miss him. He was one of the good guys.
He’s joining former Jay Eric Sogard in Milwaukee.
Beyond that there isn’t much for news out there at the moment.
Mark Shapiro was on Tim and Sid’s show, but there wasn’t a lot of actual news. You can watch it here.
He was interesting talking about how some players have a place where they want to sign. And that it is harder to sign guys when they don’t expect you to win right away.
They talked Hyun-jin Ryu but there wasn’t anything that suggested he expects to get him or that he doesn’t.
