To no one’s surprise, the vote for the top moment of the 2010s was a landslide win for Jose Bautista’s Bat Flip home run.
I was going to write a bit about the moment, but everyone has it ingrained in their memories. For me, Jose spoke for us all in the release of the frustrations that had built up in the half inning before. We all thought it was unbelievable that we could lose the series on such a weird play. I’d never seen that before. I haven’t seen it since (and you would think batters would be leaving their bat out over the strike zone after seeing how you could gain a run that way).
But thanks to Jose (and to some amazingly bad Rangers defense) that weird play didn’t cost us the series.
Sam Dyson became my second favorite opposing relief pitcher all on one pitch (right behind Mitch Williams). And then, with his whining about the bat flip, he also became the one I hated the most. The line about Jose showing him disrespect bugged me. He said he didn’t see the bat flip and that it showed disrespect. I still don’t understand how he can feel disrespected if he didn’t see it. But then he wanted to take the focus off his giving up the series losing home run.
So today we are voting on the second biggest Blue Jays moment of the 2010s. It should be a closer vote than yesterday’s.
