Poll Time: How do you feel about the Blue Jays’ signing of Hyun-jin Ryu?

Last night, the Blue Jays reportedly signed left-handed pitcher Hyun-jin Ryu to a four-year, $80-million deal according to multiple sources. The contract also reportedly includes a limited no-trade clause and no opt-out provisions, meaning that there is a high likelihood that the South Korean pitcher will be in Toronto through the 2023 season.

Ryu’s deal will become one of the most expensive offered to a free agent in Blue Jays history, slotting in between Russell Martin’s 2015 and A.J. Burnett’s 2005 deals.

At this point in the offseason, the Blue Jays’ rotation to start 2020 looks like it will be something like this:

  1. LHP Hyun-jin Ryu
  2. RHP Chase Anderson
  3. RHP Tanner Roark
  4. RHP Matt Shoemaker
  5. LHP Ryan Borucki / RHP Trent Thornton

Shun Yamaguchi will likely be relegated to the swingman role now with Anthony Kay, Julian Merryweather, Nate Pearson, Sean Reid-Foley, Jacob Waguspack, and T.J. Zeuch, vying for spots in the triple-A Buffalo Bisons rotation.

So, what do you think about the acquisition of Ryu, and of the Blue Jays’ major offseason moves at this point? Do you approve of the Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins-led front office? Do you believe the Blue Jays are a postseason contender now? Do you believe the Blue Jays will reach the ALCS at least one time between 2020 and 2023? How does this signing affect your Blue Jays fandom?
