Jon Heyman tweets that the Blue Jays are one of the teams interested in reliever Sergio Romo.
Romo turns 36 next month, he’s pitched in the MLB for 11 seasons. He has a career 2.86 ERA in 643 games. He has 109 saves.
Last year he was with the Rays (actually the last year and a half he’s been with the Rays so Charlie Montoyo knows him well. Last year he made 5 starts for the Rays, in the opener role. In that role he had a 7.71 ERA, but he gave up 3 runs in one of the ‘starts’, the others went better.
He had a 4.14 ERA in 73 games last year. In 67.1 innings he allowed 20 walks, had 75 strikeouts. The bad number was the 11 home runs allowed.
He would give us a veteran in the bullpen, someone the younger guys could look to for advise. I’d rather they go after Bryce Harper, personally but that’s not going to happen, so I’m ok with Romo.
