Tuesday bantering: Trout signs for $430 million

And Alford down, McKinney, Biagini, Mayza, Borucki make the team

MLB: Spring Training-Cleveland Indians at Los Angeles Angels Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

Bryce Harper plan to entice Mike Trout to get to free agency to sign with the Phillies didn’t work. Trout signed with the Angels for 12 years and $430 million. So we have a new record for an MLB contract. Trout will be making $35.83 million a season. Or averaging that, I don’t see details on a year-to-year break down yet. It is an extension to his current contract, which has two years left at $33.25 million each.

There is no-opt outs announced so Trout should be an Angel for life as Trout will turn 40 during the last year of the contract.

The nice news is this keeps him away from the Yankees.

Today’s Jays game has been rained out, I’m feeling sorry for Jesse Goldberg-Strassler‏ who was to get to call today’s game. Although this was a nice gesture from Rob Fai:

Anthony Alford was sent to minor league camp. Not a surprise, but I would be surprised if we don’t see him at some point this season. Reese McGuire is also going to minor league camp. He

At the other end of the scale, Ryan Borucki, Billy McKinney, Joe Biagini and Tim Mayza have all been told they have made the team. No surprises there, but it leaves one less spot for Dalton Pompey. Joe Biagini has had a nice spring. I’m hoping he can be a 2 inning reliever. Mayza has earned his spot too.

I wonder how much trade talk is going on between the Jays and other teams who might be looking for an outfielder?
