Saturday Bantering: Travis out with knee Inflammation

And open thread for Saturday spring game

MLB: Spring Training-Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Devon Travis just can’t get a break. He hasn’t played since Monday and we were wondering why. Now the Blue Jays tell us he has inflammation in his left knee. The is not the knee that he’s had troubles with in the past, but it really isn’t good news for Devon. We were hoping he could have a healthy season.

They are saying he will be evaluated tomorrow. We are still a few weeks away from opening day, so if it is just inflammation, he could still start the season. If he doesn’t, Lourdes Gurriel will likely be our starting second baseman and someone, maybe Richard Urena or Eric Sogard could make the team in a utility role.

I feel bad for Travis. If he didn’t have bad luck he’d have no luck at all.

Speaking of Lourdes, the team is saying he just has a bruise from yesterdays pitch that hit him on the wrist. They say he might play tomorrow. Personally, I’d bet he doesn’t play until Tuesday or Wednesday, but I’m glad he isn’t hurt worse.

Marcus Stroman gets his second start of the season. After the great outing Aaron Sanchez had yesterday, Stroman will want to look get to keep a leg up in the battle to be opening day starter.

Dalton Pompey gets another start. I’m still hoping he makes the team, but I think there would have to be a trade to make it happen. I wonder if there is a market for Pillar? Or perhaps Morales or Smoak?

Randal Grichuk gets his first start in the field. And Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio both get starts. The game isn’t on TV. We have to wait until tomorrow for that.
