I can barely believe it, I had to double check Jeff Passan’s tweet to make sure that it wasn’t a parody account.
But the Blue Jays have traded Kendrys Morales to the Oakland A’s. I really thought he was someone who couldn’t be traded. The Jays are sending some money along to the A’s. Likely most of his salary for the season. The A’s were looking for a first baseman, as Matt Olson is injured with a broken bone in his hand.
The Jays are getting Jesus Lopez back from the A’s. He is a 22-year-old infielder who played in full season A ball last year. He hit .239/.283/.402 with 10 home runs, in 84 games. He played mostly third last year, and a bit of second and short. I’m not expecting that he’s a prospect that we are going to hear a lot about.
I don’t know who will get Kendrys’ roster spot, perhaps Tellez. Or maybe an outfielder, like Anthony Alford.
Bye Kendrys, it has been interesting.
Update:
The Jays are also getting some international pool money in the deal. I like that.
Update #2:
.@susanslusser reports the #BlueJays will be paying $10 million of the $12 million Kendrys Morales is owed.
