The trades keep coming.
The Blue Jays have sent minor league outfielder Rodrigo Orozco to the Padres for Socrates Brito.
Brito is a 26-year-old, left-handed hitting outfielder. He played for the Diamondbacks for parts of the 2015, 2016 and 2018 seasons, getting into 82 games. He hit .175/.229/.351 in that time. Last year in Reno, of the PCL, he hit .318/.383/.540. The PCL is a hitter’s league, but those are still pretty decent numbers.
PECOTA predicted him to hit .256/.309/.430 this season.
Orozco played in Dunedin last year. He hit .304/.375/.389 there, with 18 steals. He appeared on my ‘just missed out list from this year’s Top 40 Prospects posts. He was 38th on our list the year before. I wrote:
Orozco was number 38 on our list last year. It isn’t like he had a bad season. He hit .304/.375/.389 with 1 home run, 18 steals, 40 walks and 53 strikeouts in 424 at bats in Dunedin. He is a switch hitter with speed, he played all three outfield spots last year.
I like guys that can just get on base, we don’t seem to have a lot of guys like that. But, he doesn’t have any power, so he’s going to have to hit for a very good average to keep moving up.
The team is moving Dalton Pompey to the 60-day IL to make from for Brito on the 40-man roster and apparently he’ll go on the major league roster. Of course, that’s when Brito gets here.
And the team announced that Anthony Alford has been recalled (I love that term recall, they have fond memories of Alford) from Buffalo. Not a surprise. But I wonder what will happen when Brito arrives.
I really can’t wait to see Anthony play.
