Lets not dwell on the season ending injury to The Shoe, the fingernail angst of Sanchize or the gammy leg of Galvis. Lets look forward to two interleague games against the Giants and the Return of Superman aka Kevin Pillar.
San Francisco (9-14) lost four consecutive games and five of six before winning on Sunday against the Pirates. They began the season 3-8, are next to last in the NL in runs scored with 67 and next to last in the NL with a .270 on-base percentage.
It seems a good time to play them, especially as the Jays are beginning to show some form. They have won six of their last seven games to stand at 11-12. In the second and third games against the A’s, the Jays had a combined 28 hits and across the whole series only committed one error.
The Giants are 23 games into the season, and they have yet to score a run in the first inning (sounds familiar?) Since 1912, only the 1948 White Sox (28 games) have had a longer run of first-inning failure to start a season.
The two worst first-inning team batting averages in MLB entering play Monday belonged to the Giants (.096) and yep...you guessed it, the Jays (.154).
In other Jays news
Danny Jansen and Luke Maile are fine tuning their pitch presentation.
Yesterday’s affiliates and prospects round up
Javy Guerra, who was DFA’d in Minnesota to make room for Ryan Tepera, has cleared waivers. He’s off the 40-man roster and will pitch for the Bisons until the Jays need him again.
The Bisons lost again to drop to a 4-10 record. Gurriel Jr. went 3-4 with 2 RBI but this was not good though:
