Should the Jays try to trade Smoak, Stroman and Sanchez?

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Toronto Blue Jays Kevin Sousa-USA TODAY Sports

Sportsnet has a story up quoting Ken Rosenthal saying that the Blue Jays are trying to trade Justin Smoak, Aaron Sanchez and Marcus Stroman. Rosenthal said:

It’s going to be really interesting to watch the Jays over the next few months because what I believe they’re going to do – what I’m told they’re going to do – is try to trade [Marcus] Stroman, [Aaron] Sanchez, [Justin] Smoak and others to get more young talent in Vladdy’s age range and service class and then build up that way,

Stroman turns 28 tomorrow. He can be a free agent after the 2020 season. Sanchez will be 27 on July first and also can be a free agent after the 2020 season. Smoak is 32 and is in the last year of his contract.

I would be shopping Smoak. I mean not now, but as we get closer to the deadline. Sanchez and Stroman? there seems to be a shortage of good starting pitchers out there, I would want a very good return before I traded either. I wouldn’t be against extending one or both of them. But then I’m willing to trade almost anyone if the return is right.

I also think there is some value at having some veterans on the team. And, I’m invested in Stroman and Sanchez, I’d like to continue to watch them for the next few seasons.

And...the team is playing pretty good right now, I’d like to think they could compete in the next couple of years.
