Bullpen usage commandment: Neil before your Godley!

The Toronto Blue Jays have optioned reliever Jason Adam and moved the injured Ryan Borucki to the 60-day injured list to make room on the roster for recent waiver claim Neil Ramirez. Ramirez will be wearing Edwin Jackson’s old #33.

Ramirez, 30, spent the past two seasons with Cleveland and was recently signed to a minor league deal after receiving his release from Cleveland. Ramirez was outrighted in May and spent about two months there before he was granted free agency. He pitched two games with the Blue Jays organization this week, an inning each with Dunedin and Buffalo. This was his second go-around with the Blue Jays organization—he was in the Blue Jays’ minor league for about two weeks back in 2017 after being claimed on waivers.

Room was made on the active roster by optioning Adam, who has pitched rather effectively since his callup but fell victim to the numbers game. He recorded the victory in Saturday’s win over the Yankees and will likely be back some time this month. Ramirez takes over Borucki’s spot on the 40-man roster as the young righty was moved to the 60-day injured list after undergoing a season-ending procedure to remove loose bodies from his elbow.
