Tom is out driving his new car today and I am driving down to Buffalo to catch the Bisons’ final home game, so this afternoon please chat amongst yourselves and don’t tear the house down.

Since Tom put me in charge of the open thread here are a few Blue Jays minor league updates:

  • Righty Kyle Weatherly threw a two-pitch ninth inning last night for the Dunedin Blue Jays. The ninth was treated as part of extra innings as the game scheduled for seven innings as part of a minor league doubleheader. Minor league rules also dictate that a runner is placed on second base to start the all extra innings. The first batter grounded into a fielder’s choice, 6-5, on pitch 1 of the inning to retire the “free” baserunner. Then on the very next pitch, the second batter lined out to third base, and a double play was completed by throwing to first base. This was only the second instance of a two-pitch inning that I found in my non-exhaustive search.
  • Chris Bec (Dunedin) and Ryan Sloniger (Vancouver) each helped their respective teams to walk off last night.
  • The Buffalo Bisons have released their 2020 schedule so start planning your road trips!
  • The Gulf Coast League season has come to an early end due to Hurricane Dorian. The GCL Blue Jays ended it on a good note, beating the GCL Phillies East 7-2, scoring six runs in the sixth inning. The hurricane, of course, also threatens the remainder of the Florida State League regular and post-season.
