The Blue Jays are going for the sweep against the reigning World Series champs. Buck and Dan told us last night that the Red Sox have won their last 8 series here, so a sweep would be extra sweet.
Clayton Richard, who turns 36 today, has been released to make room for Elvis Luciano on the 40-man roster. Luciano has recovered from his “injury” and will be active tonight, giving him the required amount of service time days for the Jays to retain control over him.
Charlie Montoyo was asked about not playing Anthony Alford today, and he had this to say:
Charlie Montoyo would like to give Anthony Alford a bit more run at some point, maybe a couple starts in a row, to see what he can do but he admits there’s a lot of outfielders he wants to get playing time before the season is done.#BlueJays

Here are today’s lineups behind Clay Buchholz, who will be pitching against the Red Sox for the first time in his career. Smoak will DH, Grichuk gets a start in center and McGuire will catch for Buchholz.
