Poll Time: Vote for the Blue Jays number 20 moment of the 2010s

The winner of the vote on the number 19th moment of the decade for Blue Jays is Jose Bautista hitting his 50th home run of the season in 2010. He was the first, and still the only, Blue Jays player to reach 50 home runs in a season.

Jose would finish the season with 54 home runs. The next year he would hit 43 home runs, the second highest Blue Jays homer count of the decade (which is the number 5 number in Jays history).

Jose hit 272 home runs for us in the decade. The rest of the top five of the decade are:

  • Edwin Encarnacion 231
  • Justin Smoak 117
  • Josh Donaldson 116
  • Adam Lind 89.

I have been meaning to get around to a post doing the top 5 some stats for the decade but I haven’t found the time yet.

Looking back at the last decade has reminded me how important Jose Bautista was to my Jays fandom over the past 10+ years. Jose gave the team an identity. He made us the team that everyone hated. Edwin and Josh came and helped that along but, for me, the biggest moment of the last 15 years was picking up Bautista in trade. He really made me love the Jays again. I mean I was a fan before he came to town, but he joined the team a couple of months after I started on the site and he, after a season or so, became the guy.

The decade before it was Roy Halladay. Without Halladay the Blue Jays, in the first decade of this century, would have been very hard to watch.

But that’s off topic. Here is Bautista’s 50 homer in 2010. Excellent call from Buck Martinez.

Last poll, there is going to be a lot of good moment that won’t make our top 20.
