Poll Time: Vote for the Blue Jays number 16 moment of the 2010s

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at Baltimore Orioles Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The winner of the poll for the number 16 Blue Jays moment of the 2010s was Cavan Biggio’s cycle, on September 17th, 2019.

That game Cavan struck out in the first, hit a two-run home in the second, singled in the sixth, doubled in the eight and hit the triple in the ninth. It was our only cycle of the decade, our second of the 21st century (Jeff Frye in 2001) and third in team history (Kelly Gruber had the other in 1989).

Going into the ninth, Cavan was due to bat sixth, so the odds were against him getting an at bat to try for his needed triple. But the game was tied at 4 so there was a chance that he’d get an at bat in extra innings.

Justin Smoak homered to start the inning, so it look like we weren’t going to get extra innings. Teoscar Hernandez and Jonathan Davis followed with back-to-back strikeouts, so it didn’t look like Cavan was going to get an at bat in the ninth.

But Danny Jansen singled and Bo Bichette walked to bring Cavan to the plate. But then the odds had to be slim that Cavan would get his second triple of his rookie season (his first one was just 5 days earlier).

But Cavan worked the count full and hit one deep off the center field wall. He was helped along to the triple when Orioles center fielder Mason Williams ran into the wall and was hurt (he came out of the game). With the Orioles down one in the ninth and two on for the Jays, he really needed to make the catch.

Cavan also had two stolen bases and a .583 WPA for the game. Oh, and the Jays won.
