OOTP Season Sim Games 113, Jays lose to Rays

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at Philadelphia Phillies Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

When we last looked at the OOTP Blue Jays sim season the Blue Jays were 68-44, good for first place in the AL East, 7.5 games up on the Yankees and Rays, 8 up on the Red Sox (and 25 up on the Orioles).

Danny Jansen had been hit by a pitch and went on the IL with a broken foot. He is to be out 3-4 weeks. He was hitting better than the real life Jansen, .267/.322/.485 with 9 home runs in 58 games.

And Shun Yamaguchi is out for 3 months with a torn triceps. He had a 5.72ERA and a 7-3 record with a save in 27 games, 10 starts.

Those two are the only major league Jays injuries. But their minor league pitchers have had a rough time: Ryan Borucki (out 10 months), Sean Reid-Foley (out 1-2 weeks). Tim Mayza (3 months, that’s a real life injury), Justin Miller (1 week), Hector Perez (14 months), Graham Spraker (5 weeks), Eric Pardinho (7-8 months), Roither Hernandez (out for an unknown amount of time), Soenni Martinez (3 months), Winder Garcia (4 weeks) and Luca Dalatri (7 weeks).

They only made one deadline trade getting former Jay, Aaron Sanchez from the Mariners for minor leaguers Juan Martinez and Isaac Mullins. He had a 3.78 ERA 16 starts with the Mariners and he made the All Star team (the Mariners are having a bad year.. He was a OOTP free agent signing by the Mariners. Matt Shoemaker was ‘optioned’ to Buffalo (I don’t know that he would have options in real life). Matt had a 7.12 ERA in 20 starts with the Jays.

And that should more or less catch us up.

My plan is to post these, more or less, daily. Just a reminder that I’m not controlling any of this, I’m letting the game do it all.

Game 113 is the first game of a three game series with the Rays.

Rays 13 Blue Jays 4

Stop me if you have heard this one, but Jays ace Hyun Jin Ryu got thumped by the Rays. He went 4.2 innings, allowed 7 hits, 6 earned (no Bichette errors in this one), 1 walk, 3 strikeouts and 2 home runs. Ryu’s ERA jumped from 3.04 to 3.38.

Chase Anderson wasn’t any better in relief, getting just 2 outs, allowing 5 hits and 5 earned. Before this game Chase had been terrific in relief, after having a very tough time as a starter. Jordan Romano allowed 2 solo homers. Anthony Bass and Dany Jimenez pitched the last 2.2, without allowing a run.

On offense, we had 9 hits, including 2 home runs, solo shots from Vladimir Guerrero (his 23rd) and Lourdes Gurriel (his 26th).

No JoDs, but Suckage can go to to Ryu and Anderson.

Only 34,138 sim fans came out to the old sim ball game, even with a first place team.
