OOTP Season Sim: Game 120, Jays beat Rays

I keep wanting to do these everyday but life gets in the way.

This game is August 10, game 1 of a 4-game set in Tampa Bay.

Blue Jays 5 Rays 1

Two wins in a row after a six game losing streak.

The sim Jays got a great start from Nate Pearson. 6.1 innings, 5 hits, just 1 earned (on a Jose Martinez home run), no walks and 4 strikeouts.

Rafael Dolis pitched a scoreless 1.1, allowing 3 hits and a walk. He came in with 1-out in the seventh and gave up a walk and a single, but got out of the inning. Then he got the first two outs of the eighth, but back-to-back singles ended his day and Sam Coonrod got the last out of the inning.

Ken Giles gave up a double and a walk, in a no-save spot in the ninth, but got out of the inning with 2 strikeouts.

We scored 4 runs off Rays starter Charlie Morton, on 6 hits, including a Travis Shaw home run, his 31st. If he did that well for us in real life, he’d be a fan favorite.

We scored:

2 in the third: Randal Grichuk was hit by pitch to start the inning, Reese McGuire singled him to third. He scored on a Cavan Biggio sac fly and Reese scored on a Vladimir Guerrero double.

1 in the fourth: Shaw hit his homer.

1 in the sixth: Vlad led off with a walk. An out later, Derek Fisher singled him to third and he scored on a Shaw sac fly.

1 in the ninth: Reliever Colin Poche walked Lourdes Gurriel to start the inning. Andrew Kittredge came in and sim Charliie had Shaw bunt Lourdes to second. The guy has 31 home runs, including one earlier this game and he bunts. Back-to-back singles from Grichuk and McGuire brought Lourdes home.

The quote of the game was from Pearson: We believe in ourselves and we’re willing to work hard. It is a good combination.

Austin Meadows came out of the game with an injury. No word on what the injury is, or how long he’ll be out.

In transaction moves that can’t be explained, the Jays DFAed Matt Shoemaker, after calling him up just yesterday. Eduardo Jimenez was recalled to take his roster spot.

Tomorrow Anthony Kay (2-1, 4.15) faces Tyler Glasnow (9-4, 3.99).

The Jays are now 70-50.

I thought I’d post the team stats. Danny Jansen is on the IL for another couple of weeks. Shun Yamaguchi is out for 2-3 months with a torn triceps.
