Free Agent Poll: Taijuan Walker

I’m stealing an idea from Lone Star Ball. It isn’t the first time I’ve stolen from them. The idea is to go through some of the top free agents, use the contract FanGraphs suggests they will get and have a poll asking if we would like to sign him for that amount.

Let’s start with a friend.

Craig Edwards from FanGraphs figures Taijuan Walker to get 2-years and a total of $19 million, $9.5 a year. Of course, who knows how free agency will go this year. Seeing some of the players who have had their team option declined, I think teams will try to cheap out on free-agent contracts. But for this little exercise, let’s forget that.

Keith Law has Walker 19th on his list of top free agents, FanGraphs has him 22nd.

We saw the best of Walker. 6 starts, a 1.37 ERA in 7 starts, 26.1 innings. 25 strikeouts and 11 talks.

Walkers’ past injury issues might scare some off, and Law says he doesn’t have an ‘out pitch’ (but that his curve could become one. He calls Walker a ‘back-end starter’, I think he is a mid-rotation starter. He is 28, so younger than the average free agent, and, with the injuries, doesn’t have a lot of miles on his arm.

Poll

Should the Blue Jays sign Taijuan Walker if the Price is 2 years, $19 million?
