This is the game from August 15. It is the first of a three-game series against the Cubs in Toronto.
Cubs 6 Blue Jays 2
The offensive troubles continue. The Jays are 2nd in the AL in runs scored on the season, but they have scored just 10 runs over the past 5 games.
Today they had troubles with Yu Darvish. Darvish threw 6.2 innings, allowed 5 hits, 2 earned, no walks with 9 strikeouts.
Our 2 runs scored on a Bo Bichette home run, his 35th of the season.
We had 7 hits in all, 3 of them by Joe Panik, who DHed today. Lourdes Gurriel had 2. and there was 1 each for Bichette and Reese McGuire. Panik is hitting .311/.392/.400 in limited at bats. Before his 3 hit day today, he was hitting .268.
Vladimir Guerrero had his first day off of the season. Considering he’s playing third base, I would expect him to have had more days off.
On the pitching side, Tanner Roark made the start, even though he has a day-to-day injury. I figured they would call up someone to start. Roark wasn’t good, 5 innings, 7 hits, 4 earned, 4 walks, 2 strikeouts. He gave up a home run to Victor Caratini.
Chase Anderson gave up 2 more runs in 2 innings of work.
Only 33,673 fans came out to see their first place Jays. Maybe because the Dome was closed despite a nice 23 C day.
Tomorrow Nate Pearson (10-4, 2.87 in 25 games) gets the start. Something I hadn’t noticed, but the game lists Nate as the number 1 starter now, with Ryu the number 2 guy. I don’t know when that happened. Mike Clevinger (3-1, 5.03 ERA in 7 starts) goes for the Cubs. Clevinger came to the Cubs in trade from Cleveland for catcher Wilson Contreras at the end of June.
Even with the poor play of late, the Jays are still in first.
