This is the game from August 16th, game 3 of 3, hosting the Cubs.

Cubs 3 Blue Jays 5

Two wins in a row. Maybe the slump is over.

We got a good start from Anthony Kay. He went 6.1, allowing 6 hits, 2 earned, a Anthony Rizzo home run, 1 walk with 5 strikeouts, to earn his 3 third win. He’s been very good since getting the call up at the start of July. He’s pitched 5 or more innings in 7 of his 8 starts, and 6 or more in 6 or 8.

Rafael Dolis threw 1.1 allowing a hit, walk and run, getting his 13th hold. Sam Coonrod got the last out of the eighth. And Ken Giles gave up a hit while getting 2 strikeouts for his 26th save of the season.

On offense, it was the Brandon Drury show, he drove in all 5 runs. He had a solo home run in the third and a grand slam in the fourth. The 2 home runs brings him up to 6 on the season. He’s hitting .270/.359/.528 in 103 PA. He’s been getting a bit more playing time of late. If he keeps hitting like that, he will continue to get more playing time.

Beyond the 2 Drury home runs, we had just 3 hits, singles from Cavan Biggio, Bo Bichette and Caleb Joseph (who is filling Danny Jansen’s roster spot while he is on the DL (another 2 weeks).

The quote of the game was from Drury he was “more than satisfied with the win”.

The Jays had an off-day tomorrow and then two games at home against the Cardinals. The Cards are 69-55, good for second place in the NL Central, 3.5 games back of the Cubs.

The Jays picked up a game on the Yankees, they are now 4 games up in the AL East.

I thought we would take a look at the minor league teams stats. The Bisons are 56-64, in 5th place, 13.5 games back in the International League North Division.

The hitters haven’t been good, excepting Alejandro Kirk (in just 66 at bats, he could be called up), Josh Palacios and Billy McKinney.

On the pitching side, they have had a number of pitchers hurt. At the moment Borucki, Reid-Foley and James Dykstra are on the IL. Julian Merryweather, Thomas Hatch and Jacob Waguespack have been good. And Sam Gaviglio has 19 saves in the pen.
