The Blue Jays have signed Robbie Ray to a one-year, $8 million contract, or so says Jeff Passan.
Ray came in trade from the Diamondbacks for Travis Bergen at the end of August. For the Jays he was 1-1 with a 4.79 ERA in 5 games, 4 starts. He allowed 22 hits, 14 walks with 25 strikeouts in 20.2 innings.
Career he has a 4.26 ERA in 161 games, 157 starts.
The trouble has been the walks, a 17.9% walk rate in his short time with the Jays. Career his walk rate is 11.0%. The Jays must figure they can get him back in the strikezone.
He also miss a lot of bats for the Jays, a 45.5% strikeout rate in his short time with the team.
Welcome back Bob Rae.
First free agent deal of the offseason is done. Left-hander Robbie Ray and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a one-year, $8 million deal, a source familiar with the contract tells ESPN. Good start to the hot stove for Toronto, which will use Ray as a starter, and for Ray.
