There isn’t a lot of Blue Jays news out there today.
Hyun-Jin Ryu is pitching in a simulated game today. They want to hide him from the Rays a bit. He’ll be facing them a few times this season.
Jonathan Davis gets his first appearance of the spring. He missed the start of spring to be there for the birth of his daughter Kapri Dove Davis. Apparently it wasn’t a pretty rough birth.
The outfield situation seems pretty unclear, Davis might have a good shot at making the team with a good spring. Anthony Alford is also playing, he has 2 hits in 14 PA, with 10 strikeouts and more errors than hits.
Anthony Kay gets the start, his third of the spring.
The game is on TV today.
Christian Yelich has signed a contract extension. He had $41.5 million and 3 years left on his contract that would have taken him through his age 30 season. They have added 7 years and $187.25 million to that. It seems like a fair bit of money . Under the deal he will be a Brewer through the 2018 season. And Jeff Passan says there is a ‘mutual option’ for the 2029 season. He would be 37 in 2019.
I wouldn’t mind the Jays giving Bo and Vlad each some sort of deal that keeps them in Toronto for the decade or longer.
