I’m running around trying to get packed, looking for that one belt that actually fits me (where did I put it?), charging everything and making sure there is room in my bag for purchases made while we are away. Someone told me there are great leather goods in Morocco. I tend to buy shoes on holiday.
Anyway, bit of Jays stuff:
Teoscar Hernandez has been nursing a sore groin. Manager Charlie Montoyo says the #Bluejays outfielder is day-to-day but nothing serious.

There is always groin injuries at this time of spring, so I’m not going to worry about it. If he isn’t playing in a week, then I’ll worry.
Rob also tells us that Nate Pearson will be on a 50 pitch limit today.
And Jon Heyman has a few Jays tweets:
The Jays payroll is about 98M, which is 24th, or extremely low for a big-market team. They do have a positional group that should be ready to win fairly soon, and there are said to be plans to be a top-10 payroll team in a couple years. That’s where they should be.

Worrying about the payroll when several players are in their first 2-3 seasons in the league is something for others to do. When so many players are making the minimum, your payroll will be low, I don’t see any reason it should be all that much higher right now, though I would be ok if they found a high priced center fielder.
Vlad Guerrero Jr. got down below 260 pounds, below where he was last spring, and allowing him to remain at 3B. But the Jays hope he keeps trending down. Just in case, they have Travis Shaw, who could switch back from 3B to 1B.

I’m down below 260 as well....roughly 70 pounds below, but then I don’t think I would be able to remain at third. Something about arm strength and not wanting to be that close to right handed batters who can pull the ball hard down the line. But I digress. At the end there, I think Jon means Shaw could switchback from first to third.
At some point he’ll move off third. I think we all know that. Personally, I’d have him play a little bit at first this spring, or at least practice a bit at first.
Jays had offered Mike Moustakas 30M for 3 years before signing Shaw. Moose obviously wound up doing better with 64M for 4 from the Reds.

Moustakas had a 3.2 bWAR last year, his best number since 2015 and the second best number of his career. I always worry about giving a guy a long contract off a career year, but it might work out for the Reds.
Today’s lineup. Chase Anderson gets the start.
