OOTP Season Sim Game 28: Jays lose to Red Sox

There was a bit of news from Triple-A Buffalo: Sean Reid-Foley went on the IL with a strained forearm and will be out about 3 weeks. It is funny, in my OOTP game the Jays starting rotation has been killed off with injuries. In this on the Bisons’ rotation is the one with the problems. Ryan Borucki (for the season), Thomas Hatch (should be back soon) and now Reid-Foley.

Red Sox 6 Blue Jays 4

Chase Anderson got the start and he was, well, much the same as he’s been all season, terrible. He went 3.2 innings, allowed 8 hits, 5 earned, 1 walk with 6 strikeouts.

He gave up 3 runs in the third inning: Andrew Benintendi singled and J.D. Martinez homered. Then Rafael Devers doubled and scored on a Alex Verdugo single. Verdugo, who came in the Mookie Betts trade. He is hitting .419/.435/.721 in 10 games after getting a call up from the minors 10 days ago or so. The other end of the trade, Mookie Betts is hitting .366/.421/.527 with 3 home runs in 28 games. David Price isn’t having a great time of it, 5.23 ERA in 6 starts.

And 2 more in the fourth: Jackie Bradley hit a leadoff home run. Mitch Moreland singled, was erased on a Jonathan Lucroy fielder’s choice and Lucroy scored on a Bnintendi double. That was it for Anderson’s day. His ERA is 10.42 after 6 games, 4 starts. I’d be pulling him from the rotation if I was running things.

Jordan Romano pitched 4.1 innings or 1 run ball. Danny Jimenez pitched the ninth.

On offense, we scored 4 runs which should be enough most games. Lourdez Gurriel hit a 2-run homer and Travis Shaw had a solo shot.

The 2-run homer was in the fourth, but with started the inning down by 5. After the homer, Cavan Biggio singled and scored on a Brandon Drury double.

Shaw’s homer came in the bottom of the ninth, but it was too little too late.

Suckage goes to Anderson. No JoDs, by the time the bats started the game was a run away.

The Jays drop to 17-11.

Tomorrow Matt Shoemaker (1-2, 6.85) should get the start. Ryan Weber (3-2, 3.56 ERA in 5 starts) goes for the Sox.

Here’s where our minor league teams are sitting. I’ll post player stats sometime this week.
