So there are things I don’t understand about how the AI is running the Jays. After the game Teoscar Hernandez was sent to Buffalo and Rowdy Tellez was called up. Teoscar started the season slow but is hitting .265/.338/.559 with 11 home runs in 37 games now. And, in 8 May games he is hitting .357/.400/.929. I can’t see any reasoning for send him out, unless he was having an affair with the wife of someone in the front office.
I’ve been totally hands off on the game, but I might override this move in a day or two.
Tellez was doing good in Buffalo: .264/.336/.500 with 7 home runs in 30 games, but the move doesn’t make any sense.
There was a bit of minor league news:
- Elvis Luciano is the Florida State League Player of the Week. In 2 starts he had a 0.00 ERA with 9 strikeouts in 14.1 innings.
- Kevin Vicuna went on the IL with a strained back. He’ll be out for 2 weeks.
Blue Jays 2 A’s 10
For the third game in a row we got a lousy start. This time it was Shun Yamaguchi who stunk things up. He went 3.2, allowed 7 hits, 5 earned, 2 walks with 5 strikeouts.
Wilmer Font wasn’t any better, giving up 3 earned, on 3 hits, with 2 strikeouts in an inning.
Anthony Bass slowed the scoring down, allowing just a walk in 2.1 innings.
Eduardo Jimenez pitched the eighth, allowing 2 more runs on 3 hits.
Offensively, we only managed 5 hits (2 of them from Teoscar, maybe that’s why he was sent down, for making the rest of the offense look bad). Travis Shaw had the only extra base hit, a double.
A’s starter Frankie Montas went 5.2 allowing 4 hits, 2 earned, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts, before coming out of the game with a sore back. He should be able to make his next start.
The Jays lead in the AL East is down to a half game.

Tomorrow we start a three-game series against the Rangers in Texas. Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-1, 2.35 in 8 starts) tries to end out 3 game losing streak. Lance Lynn (1-5, 6.93 in 8 starts) goes for the Rangers. It’s the Jays first game at Globe Life Field.
