Jerry Stiller passing away reminded me how much I like Seinfeld. It was pretty great that Stiller got to play that part at an age when most actors can’t get work. Having the biggest success of his career later in life. And he was terrific in his role.

I figured I’d ask two separate questions. For those of us old enough and who watched Seinfeld, what was your favorite episode.

And give us your five favorite TV comedies of all time.

For me, my favorite comedies:

  • MASH

My wife was talking about MASH a couple of weeks ago and it isn’t on any of the stream services, so I ordered DVDs of the series off Amazon. We are into the second season and it has been nice to be reminded of how funny it was. I remember thinking that I didn’t like the first couple of seasons weren’t my favorites, because it was simpler. The characters were pretty one dimensional. As it went on the characters got better, more real. It was preachy at times but then if you can’t be preachy about a war that shouldn’t have been happening, when can you be preachy?

  • WKRP

I thought it was the funniest show I ever watched. Everyone talks about the Thanksgiving episode, but that one wasn’t my favorite. There was one where the owner brought in a ‘radio consultant’ to fix the station, so they all changed their personalities to fool this guy. It was great. And, of course, I had a crush on Bailey.

  • Frasier

I’ll still watch repeats.

  • Seinfeld
  • Fawlty Towers

One of those shows that will make me laugh no matter how many times I’ve watched it.
