I’m a day behind, this is Saturday’s game, following the double-header on Friday. Both teams pitching staffs were in disarray. I’ll catch up tonight.
The Orioles made a roster move, bringing up pitcher Paul Fry from Triple-A and sending pitcher Bruce Zimmerman down. I figured the Jays should make a move to bring up a rested arm but they didn’t.
The game was wild:
Blue Jays 24 Orioles 10
The Jays used 8 pitchers. They made it a ‘bullpen day’ without a rested starter. They started reliever Anthony Bass. He went 1.1 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 earned, 1 walk with 1 home run. Then:
- Wilmer Font: 2 innings, no hits or walks with 3 strikeouts. He was awarded the win.
- Dany Jimenez: Only got one out. Gave up 2 hits, 2 earned, 1 walk, 1 k, 1 home run.
- Brian Moran: 1.1, clean with 2 strikeouts.
- Rafael Dolis: 1.0, 2 hits, 1 earned, 1 k.
- Jordan Romano: Got 1 out, gave up 2 walks and 2 earned.
- Eduardo Jimenez: 0.2, 3 hits all homers, 3 earned, 1 walk.
- Ken Giles: The only rested reliever we had. He went 2 innings, with 1 hit, 2 strikeouts.
The Orioles used 11 pitchers, two position players threw for them. They started the just called up Paul Fry. He isn’t a starter type. He went 1.2 scoreless, allowing 2 hits.
- Richard Bleier: 0.2, 2 hits, 3 earned, 1 walk.
- Tanner Scott: 0.2, 2 hits, both home runs, 2 earned, 1 k.
- Miguel Castro: 1.0, 1 hit, 1 earned, 2 walks.
- Shawn Armstrong: 0.1, 1 hit, 2 earned, 1 walk.
- Hunter Harvey: Didn’t get an out. 1 hit, a home run, 3 earned, 2 walks.
- Isaac Mattson: Also didn’t get an out. 2 hits, one home run, 3 earned, 1 walk.
- Mychal Givens: 0.2, scoreless, 1 hit, 1 k.
- Keyvius Sampson: He’s been a starter up to this relief appearance. 1.2, scoreless, 2 hits, 2 k.
- Chance Sisco: He is the Orioles regular catcher, who was getting the day off. He pitched 2.0, 4 hits, 8 earned, 7 walks, 3 home runs allowed.
- Jose Iglesias: He was getting the day off too. He got the last out, gave up 2 hits, 1 home run, 2 earned.
The Jays got 20 hits and 14 walks (7 of the walks were handed out by Sisco). Hitting stars:
- Randal Grichuk: 4 for 5, 4 RBI, 1 home run, 2 walks.
- Bo Bichette: 3 for 6, 6 RBI, 1 homer, 1 walk.
- Rowdy Tellez: 3 for 4, 2 RBI, 2 home runs, 2 walks.
- Brandon Drury: 3 for 4, 5 RBI, 2 home run, 2 walks.
- Lourdes Gurriel: 2 for 3, 1 RBI.
- Teoscar Hernandez: 1 for 1, walk, home run.
- Derek Fisher: 2 for 7, 4 RBI, home run
- Travis Shaw: 0 for 2, 4 walks. The 4 walks ties a Blue Jays record for walks in a game.
We scored:
- 4 in the third inning.
- 2 in the fourth.
- 8 in the fifth.
- 3 in the eighth.
- 7 in the ninth.
The Jays are now 35-24, with a 2.5 game lead on the Red Sox.

Shun Yamaguchi should start the Sunday game for the Jays. Kyle Lloyd (2-5, 6.66 in 11 starts) should start for the Orioles. Both teams bullpens are full of tired arms.
