OOTP Season Sim Game 73: Rays score 15, beat Jays

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Toronto Blue Jays Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

A little bit of sim MLB news today. Former Jays starter Marcus Stroman threw a complete game shutout against the Cubs. Stroman allowed 4 hits, 1 walk with 10 strikeouts. He threw 115 pitches to complete the game. Stroman is having a good season, 6-6 with a 2.93 ERA with the Mets. Mets are second in the NL East at 41-31, just a half game back from the Braves.

Rays 15 Blue Jays 5

The Jays pitching staff is in a slump. They have given up double digets in runsin 3 of their last 4 games and 4 of their last 7. I find with the game, and often in real life, good and bad pitching seems to be contagious. Right now the Jays have a terrible case of Crappy Arm Syndrome.

Today Matt Shoemaker couldn’t get an out in the second inning. He went 1 innings, allowed 8 hits, 7 earned, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. He faced four batters in the second, without getting an out. Being fair there was a batter reach on catcher interference and a bunt single among the four, but it was still a terrible performance.

Matt’s having a miserable season. He is 2-7 with an 8.02 ERA. Sim Ross Atkins should release him.

Our bullpen gave up another 8 runs, but only 3 were earned. Danny Jansen had a terrible night, making 3 errors (a throwing error, and catcher’s interference in the second inning, and another throwing error in the eight, both on steals), and Cavan Biggio made 1.

With that many runs against, it really didn’t matter what we did on offense, but we had 8 hts, and 6 walk. Rowdy Tellez, Teoscar Hernandez and Travis Shaw each had home runs. For Shaw it was his 20th.

The Jays are no longer alone in first place:

Tomorrow Tanner Roark (1-3, 4.68 in 13 starts) gets the start. Tyler Glasnow (7-4, 3.82 in 15 starts) goes for the Rays.
