A far bit has happened over the last few days. From the Bluejays.com transaction page:
- Seattle Mariners traded 1B Daniel Vogelbach to Toronto Blue Jays for cash.
- Seattle Mariners traded RHP Taijuan Walker to Toronto Blue Jays for Player To Be Named Later.
- Los Angeles Dodgers traded RHP Ross Stripling and Player To Be Named Later to Toronto Blue Jays for Player To Be Named Later. I didn’t know there was a PTBNL coming to the Jays.
- Miami Marlins traded SS Jonathan Villar to Toronto Blue Jays for Player To Be Named Later. The player to be named is apparently Griffin Conine.
- Arizona Diamondbacks traded LHP Robbie Ray and cash to Toronto Blue Jays for LHP Travis Bergen.
And there are two other moves listed on their transaction page that haven’t been announced:
- Toronto Blue Jays designated RHP Sam Gaviglio for assignment.
- Toronto Blue Jays designated 3B Brandon Drury for assignment.
The other move made was Alejandro Kirk has been added to the taxi squad. Maybe they want to give Jansen and Reese a little motivation.
They do need to make room on the 40-man for the additions.
I like that they didn’t give away many of our top prospects (at least as far as we know at the moment). We do need pitching help and we got it. I’m thinking Robbie Ray becomes a long reliever type, while they work with him. Walker looked terrific in his start. Villar is a step up from what we have at third and short. Stripling? I guess we’ll see what the plan is for him.
