The players who will join the Blue Jays’ postseason roster pool have been announced. Every team that is still in contention for a playoff spot—Toronto has a magic number of 2 for the eighth and final spot in the American League—are required to name a list of 40 players who will join a pseudo-quarantine bubble this week. The players in the playoff bubble are now no longer allowed to leave their hotel when they are not at the ballpark.
As in previous years, teams can select a different active roster for each round of the postseason. In 2020, the Blue Jays and other postseason teams will choose 28 of the 40 players in their pool to join the active roster.
They have also included four players who are not currently on the 40-man roster in their playoff player pool—these players would have to be added to the 40-man prior to being added to the active roster. Having recently moved Ken Giles to the 60-day injured list, the Blue Jays have one spot open on the 40-man roster.
