The Jays made some news this afternoon. The let go of three members of the front office:
- Pat Hentgen, who has been a ‘special assistant’ since 2012. He also worked as bullpen coach for a couple of seasons.
- Paul Quantrill, who has been a special assistant since 2013.
- Ken Huckaby, who was named manager of the Bisons during the off-season and ran the alternate training site. Before that he was catching coordinator. He’s worked for the team since 2013.
All three seemed well liked. I don’t know the reasoning behind the moves. Nor do I know why they would do this just a few days before the end of the season.
The Blue Jays are using Alejandro Kirk as DH today. Cavan Biggio plays third base again. Villar is at second.
It seems like every game with the Yankees will have one team or the other scoring 10+ runs. I can’t see Ryu giving up that many, so it should be a good evening.
The Royals have announced that Alex Gordon will retire after this season. He had a 14-year career, all with the Royals. He hit .257/.338/.411 with 190 home runs in 1749 games. He’s an excellent defensive left fielder.
For the 20th season in a row, we will not have a repeat champion. pic.twitter.com/RRpQZA0GPt
