Two Years Ago Today
It was John Gibbons day. We beat the Astros 3-1. We only had 3 hits, but 2 were homers, Randal Grichuk had 2-run home run and Reese McGuire had a solo shot.
Gibbons used 7 pitchers (everyone cheered every time he came out of the dugout so why not milk it). Sean Reid-Foley started, he was only to go 2 innings, but he had a no-hitter going so Gibby left him in until he gave up a hit with one out in the fourth.
After that there was a list of guys no longer with the team, except for Ken Giles, who got the save. We saw Joe Biagini (with the Astros, but not on the active roster), Jake Petricka (Jays released him two weeks ago), Tim Mayza (recovering from Tommy John), Ryan Tepera (pitching for the Cubs) and Tyler Clippard (pitching for the Twins).
The whole game was a love-in for a guy who many had wanted fired for most of his time here.
I’m sure you remember this moment:

Six Years Ago
Dalton Pompey hit 2 triples in a game. A Baseball Reference search shows that it has been done 13 times in team history. This was the last time. Others were Alex Rios, Orlando Hudson, Shannon Stewart, Devon White (twice), Tony Fernandez, Dave Collins, Lloyd Moseby, Garth Iorg, Barry Bonnell and Alfredo Griffin (twice).
Dalton also had a double in a game we won 4-2 over the Orioles. He had 2 RBI and 2 runs.
Drew Hutchison started the game, going 5 innings and Marcus Stroman, just off a five game suspension for throwing at then Orioles catcher, current Blue Jays cheerleader Caleb Joseph, got a 4 inning save.
