The Blue Jays traded ‘cash considerations’ to the Diamondbacks to get 27-year-old, LHP Travis Bergen back. You’ll remember that they Jays traded him to Arizona for Robbie Ray last August. Before that the Giants picked him up from us in the Rule 5 draft, in 2019, and then returned him in August of that year.
Patrick Murphy was put on the 60-day IL, with a sprained A/C joint, to make roster room for Travis. I’m sad to hear that about Murphy, I was hoping he would get a shot to make the bullpen.
Bergen has pitched in 29 games over the past two seasons, 21 with the Giants, 1 for us last year, and 7 with the Diamondback. He has a 4.82 ERA in 28 innings with 18 walks and 29 strikeouts.
In 2018 he had a 0.95 ERA in 43 games split between Dunedin and New Hampshire, which got attention.
Welcome back Travis.
