Tuesday Bantering: Jays pick up Montoyo’s contract option

Wild Card Round - Toronto Blue Jays v Tampa Bay Rays - Game Two Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images

The Blue Jays announced they have picked up the option in Charlie Montoyo’s contract for 2022. Pretty much a standard thing, they wouldn’t want him going into the season as a ‘lame dunk’. They got to the playoffs under Charlie last year, so there was little chance they wouldn’t extend him.

This will be Montoyo’s third season with the team, he’s 99-123 in his first two seasons. I am curious how this year goes. Will we see the ‘twice through the order’ plan that was used last year or are we going to see starters going later into games. I don’t know that the short starts are sustainable over a 162 game season.

And the other news is that Nate Pearson reaggravated his groin issue this morning. They think it is a mild ‘reaggravation’. Apparently, they are still assessing his groin, which I’m sure is not the most pleasant thing for Nate. It seems pretty sure that Nate won’t be on the opening day roster. Stripling, Kay, and Hatch are candidates for his spot in the rotations. If I was a betting man, I’d put money on Stripling.

And Atkins told the press that “we’ll see” when asked if Alejandro Kirk will make the team.

Today’s game is listed as being on MLB.tv. I’m hoping to get to watch.

Today’s lineup:

Kate has found the link for the fixed camera feed:

I can’t imagine I’ll watch for long, the fixed camera doesn’t keep my interest.
