Blue Jays roster move: Milone in, Payamps out

MLB: New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Easter everyone. Enjoy some chocolate.

We are going to see a lot of roster moves this year.

The Blue Jays have activated LHP Tommy Milone. To make room Joel Payamps (who Dan and Buck called Pie-amps yesterday, which makes me wonder if what we have been told is wrong, including the team pronunciation guide because generally Dan and Buck are sticklers for getting pronunciation right) has been moved to the taxi squad.

And, to make room on the 40-man roster, Kirby Yates has been moved to the 60-day IL.

They are wanting someone who can give them a few innings today, in case Zeuch comes out early. I’m expecting we will see Trent Thornton throw at least a couple of innings, but if we need someone else to go long, Milone is there.

Milone had a good spring, 8.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 earned, 2 home runs, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts. But a very small sample. Last year he made 9 starts split between the Orioles and the Braves. and had a 6.69 ERA. He’s been in the MLB for 10 years and has a 4.56 ERA in 913 innings.

Payamps impressed me yesterday. I hope we see him again soon.

In other news:

  • We should be getting word of Reese McGuire today. I’d expect some team to take him and see what he can do.
  • Pete Walker says that Robbie Ray is ‘really close’ to returning.

And Alejandro Kirk makes his 2021 debut today.
