Update: David Phelps goes on the 60-day IL to open a spot for Allgeyer.
Keegan Matheson tells us that the Blue Jays are calling up Nick Allgeyer. Nick wasn’t on the 40-man, so there will be some move to make room for him. You can make your guess on the what the move might be.
He’s a lefty pitcher. He is number 30 on MLB Pipeline’s top 30 Jays' prospect list.
The Blue Jays have been very impressed with the work Allgeyer put in during the lost 2020 season, which helped him increase his velocity. Allgeyer’s fastball has moved through the low-90s and reaches into the mid-90s now. Allgeyer was able to keep his workload up during the 2020 season, too, by throwing live bullpen sessions. While his breaking balls have also taken strides recently, the Blue Jays are particularly encouraged by how his changeup plays off his improved fastball.
He has made two starts for Buffalo, pitching 12 innings, 7 hits, 2 earned, 1 home run, 5 walks, and 10 strikeouts.
Without Ryan Borucki, another lefty would be handy to have, and he should be able to give us a few innings. He has to go through Covid protocols to join the team, but he should dress tonight.
This is cool, we should have a hero interview and a gift of meat at Jays' games.
Justin hit a go ahead home run today in the game. Every home game there is a “hero” interview. He won that today. I am sure most of you know this much attention is a lot for him, but it’s al about embracing the new experiences! Wish we could be there to share them as well!!! https://t.co/MFZXIm6lmw
