I thought we would do quick recaps of the four minor league Opening Day games.
Worcester Red Sox 1 Buffalo 6
I wanted to watch this one but, for some reason, it wasn’t on MiLB TV.
The important part, Nate Pearson was good. 3.2 innings, 4 hits, 1 earned, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts. 78 pitches in 3.2 innings is a little high, but 53 of them were strikes. I really want the Jays to bring him up soon. We could us fewer bullpen days, and even if he only goes 3.2 innings, that’s better than the average opener.
The Buffalo bullpen threw 5.1 innings: Tayler Saucedo (2.1 innings), Kirby Snead, Jeremy Beasley, and Bryan Baker (an inning each).
On offense, they had 12 hits, two each from Forrest Wall (with a triple), Breyic Valera, Josh Palacios, and Juan Graterol.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats 11 Portland Sea Dogs 2
The important parts, Austin Martin (playing CF) singled in his first pro at-bat. He was 2 for 4 with a walk and a hit batter. It was good to get to see him on MiLB TV (if you want to watch some games, it is only about $40 US for the season).
Gabriel Moreno was 3 for 5 with a walk and a double.
Also having two hits: Otto Lopez, Chavez Young (with two walks and a steal, I’d love him to have a great year), Demi Orimoloye, and Kevin Vicuna.
Jordan Groshans (playing SS) was 1 for 4 with 2 walks. Brock Lundquist homered.
On the pitching side, Zach Logue went 5 innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 walk with 5 strikeouts.
Vancouver Canadians 0 Tri-City Dust Devils 4 (someone is kidding with that name right?)
Adam Kloffenstein started, going 3.2, allowing 3 hits, 4 walks with 3 strikeouts on 66 pitches.
Luke Gillingham threw 1.1 innings of relief, getting the loss on 2 unearned runs. Andrew McInvale gave up a 2-run homer in his 2 innings of relief.
On offense, they only had four hits. One single each for Tanner Morris, Phillip Morris, DJ Neal, and LJ Talley.
Dunedin Blue Jays 7 Tampa Tarpons 11
Dunedin had 7 hits and 9 walks.
Addison Berger was 3 for 4 with a home runs and a double.
Justin Ammons went 2 for 5, with a home run.
Miguel Hiraldo and MacKenzie Mueller had a hit each.
Zach Britton and Jhon Solarte had 3 walks each.
